At Northwood, the English department is rooted in the belief that literacy is the foundation for academic achievement. We encourage parents to take part in monitoring students’ summer reading because projects, essays, and/or tests based on summer reading will
be required within the first week of school in the fall even for those students who do not have English class until the second semester.
For our students in advanced English classes (Honors, AP, DE, or GT), two summer reading books are required. All other students have the option to read Erased by Anders Edwards and earn an extra grade if (and only if) the student earns a grade of A or B.
